"There's nothing better than your own backyard," Robert Earl Keen once sang. And it's true. Much like a trip to DC sometimes when it comes to history and sights and decorations you overlook some that are the closest to you.
But we've come to find that an annual trip to downtown Richmond's Jefferson Hotel during the Christmas season never disappoints.
Decorations abound in this historic, late 19th century hotel regularly regarded as one of the top hotels in the country. The grand Christmas tree that sits in the Rotunda to the wreaths and lights that surround it all there is special feel to all of this. Up the grand staircase near the Lemaire restaurant is the annual gingerbread house display that consists of hundreds of pounds of gingerbread, frosting and more pounds of other candy than you could ever count. It is always an impressive design that is a delight to marvel at.
As one may expect, this is a very popular destination particularly this time of year. The Jefferson is a very popular place for holiday parties and so many that have come to love the decorations this time of year. The downstairs bar TJ's has been re-opened to help with the weekend crowds along with the world-class Lemaire. It's fun to have the kids dress up, go to a fancy place and get to have the Christmas all around you. So grab a drink, find a spot to relax and enjoy the beautiful decorations.
